Day 41- Day 44

Angies visit was short but so sweet!!!!! She was there for our first snow! We went into a mall to shop for boots.....just a quick trip. ha ha!!!! And when we went out to the car it was a white out!!!!

Angie found her boots, but we were not prepared!
Angie wrote in the snow...we had fun playing in the parking lot..even tho' people gave us the "geez..out of towners" look!!!!     The ride home was interesting and a bit scary, and as always we laughed all the way home!!!

And she sighted the first deer!!!
We miss you Angie, come back soon and bring the whole family!!!!

Holiday Greetings!!!

365 Days On A Farm: Day 57 - Hot Cocoa and Sledding

Day 57 - Hot Cocoa and Sledding

12 degrees.
Yesterday, wonderful day!! We bought two sleds, our hill is the perfect spot to ride.  I went down the hill twice....once without gloves. Not too bright! The guys continued in the afternoon, even Buddy joined in for a ride or two. Ice crystals formed on the bare limbs of the trees, and then the wind blows it down. It looks like it's snowing with blue skies above. Breathtaking! About 10 p.m. the boys geared up again and went sledding, it was a full moon, you could see for miles with the reflection of light on the snow in the corn fields.

Barn Cats Keeping Warm!

I don't know how they stay warm..but they do...they have food water and lots of warm cows to snuggle up to in the barn! No, they can't come into the house, they are wild cats!

Day 54

Woke up to 14" drifts...we were suppose to get  about 8 inches. With the wind drifts on the driveway were a lot higher. So much for going into town today.
One of the farm hands just plowed the lane leading to the road. Will check it out in a bit. How much snow before they close the schools??? I remember that as a kid in Indiana..huddled around the kitchen table listening to the radio announcer calling out school closures..crossing fingers mine would be next!

Day 52

-4 Degrees out!

Was a wonderful weekend, went to a hometown celebration in the Town Center. Horse Drawn Carriage ride in the snow, I have always wanted to do that! Meet and greet with local businesses. I gotta tell you tho'.....walking down the main street (which was closed for the event) with the snow lightly falling, (arm in arm with my Darling), I had visions of being in a Northern Exposure Episode. I kept waiting for Maurice to come out and Boast about how he financed the WHOLE event !
All that aside, this is a charming community.....and I fully plan on finding my place in it!
The big blizzard never came! Although winds raked across the snow that fell earlier and made it bitter cold...

Little did I know that sis was a knitter until I handed her the already cast on needles and asked her to pose for the camera...before I knew it her fingers were flying..... and she was knitting...POOF ..she is now out of the closet! WHO KNEW?

08-07-2007 River Farm - Virginia

During a trip to Virginia in 2007, I met a farmer and spinner on a charming farm in Virginia. She graciously let me into her home, gave me a tour of the River Farm, answering all the silly questions with the patience of a teacher and gentleness of an instant friend. Accomplished Knitter, Spinner and Farmer is much too narrow of a description of this wonderful lady.

Day 47

Getting the farm house decorated for Christmas..I think it's too late to put lights up out side, far too cold.  But we can do the inside of the house.  Or at least I can. I am on my own with this one. Scott, my husband is not fond of this holiday.  It's too commercialized for him. But I love the whole experience.
I still can't believe we live on a farm, and how it all came to be. This was not a planned occurrence, at least not on our part. I think the universe has a hand in it.  I have wanted to live on a farm for most of my life. But four years ago I went to visit my Soul sister Rosa, in Virginia, it was then that I fell in love with the idea of living on a farm. That combined with my passion for knitting and natural fibers, I toured farms in Virginia.  From there I continued on my quest for info on raising Alpaca and discovered that people living on a farm have a very fulfilled and more organic way of living. I have read Mother Earth News Magazine, and found it fascinating enough to spend time day dreaming about living on a farm. I even bought dishes and furniture that would be appropriate on a farm, can you say O.C.D. ? I was working on my Positive Thought Projection, "If you Visualize it, It will Come" right?  I placed pictures of a farm up everywhere, even knit a rug or two just for that purpose. I must inform you that I lived in Arizona at the time. Knitting scarves fit for a polar bear, and imagining that one day I will live on a farm, knit and design for a living, and one day......have Alpaca of my very own!
Thats was four years ago, although I left the pictures up, and continued knitting and designing, my layoff from work as a bookkeeper and subsequent quest for financial survival took precedence over the next few years. I still had many lessons to learn.
Several moves later, when I finally left my comfortable familiar community and braved it out in the Big bad world that my life has made amazing changes.  I let go control, and constantly fighting to make life go according to my plan.  I opened my eyes and my heart to enjoy lifes moments and the wonderful people that occupy it. Almost with lightening speed I have been heading in all the directions that took me here.  It's been a crazy journey, full of spiritual enlightenment and love. And I have never been happier in my life.
Scott was transfered to Iowa for employment and given a short notice, which was moved up to a two week notice. It was a fast move, with no where to move to.  Scott was out of town already working at his new position while I was back in Phoenix getting ready for the move.  He was busy with work and spending any off time looking for a house to rent for us, two teenage boys, four cats and a ball python snake. LOL...Thats a tall order!  We were running out of time and still had to make the journey across the states (four days) to get there. One of the ads we called was for a brick house on a cattle farm. Scott was due to come home the next day and no one else called us back, so he went to meet farmer Larry ( I didn't know his full name) and looked at the house. It was a bit of a drive but workable, it was our backup plan.

Day 45

Angie my cousin/niece left yesterday, her short visit went way too fast. At least she was here for our family's first snow....and the first sighting of a white tail deer. It's difficult being away from family/loved ones. I feel very isolated.

It's snowing off and on, not much accumulation since Fridays' couple of inches. I don't believe that I can get my car out of the garage and down the lane. Online work may be my only option. Christmas is only a few weeks away and it's looking a bit bleak. Time to get my knitting patterns entered and put on my website. I will try to keep positive motivation my mantra!
